Vape stores and ice cream shops have had one thing in common for years now: free samples. Just like an ice cream shop lets you try a spoonful of any flavor before choosing your double scoop, vape shops often let customers sample e-liquid flavors before buying a full bottle. But those days have officially ended in the US, as the Food and Drug Administration’s regulations on e-cigarettes came into effect Monday.

Monday, August 8th, 2016 marks the start of a two-year countdown to the FDA’s near prohibition of 99% of vapor products currently on the market. To prevent this, we have a specific ask of congress to update the 2007 predicate date to 2016. This is a necessary first step in a larger legislative battle to keep the diverse range of vapor products available.

The federal government on Thursday announced sweeping new regulations for electronic cigarettes that could upend the multibillion-dollar industry and for the first time require e-cigarette makers to submit their products for a safety review.
Before brands are allowed to stay in the market, regulators would have to check the ingredients, design and flavor of the fast-growing devices, which have found a foothold with teenagers.
